Evidence-first bookkeeping
Good bookkeeping is not about forcing every transaction to turn green.
If the business purpose, supporting evidence or GST treatment is unclear, Monthend leaves the item unresolved and asks the right question rather than guessing.
That means the monthly process is designed around clear records, documented exceptions and a controlled finish — not simply clearing a reconciliation screen.
A sensible fit
Built for straightforward owner-managed businesses.
Monthend is designed for New Zealand sole traders, contractors and small businesses using Xero where the monthly work is reasonably predictable and the owner or admin contact can answer questions when needed.
Usually a good fit
Routine bank and card activity, sensible transaction volumes, source documents that can be captured consistently, straightforward GST preparation, and a responsive point of contact.
Needs separate assessment
Material historical cleanup, high or volatile transaction volumes, multiple entities or currencies, inventory-heavy operations, specialist tax issues, complex payroll, or work needing ongoing controller/CFO-level involvement.

Bookkeeping delivered using Xero, with clear boundaries.
Monthend works primarily in Xero for routine recurring bookkeeping. Xero is the bookkeeping system — not a substitute for evidence or judgement.
Where specialist tax, annual accounting or filing decisions are needed, those remain with the client or their accountant.
For accountants & CAs
A clean bookkeeping handoff without taking the client away from their accountant.
Monthend can take on suitable routine bookkeeping clients directly while your practice continues to handle tax, annual accounts and advisory work.

Monthend prepares routine GST information where in scope but does not file GST returns. Filing remains with the client or their accountant/tax adviser.
Small by design. Structured enough to be reliable.
Monthend Bookkeeping is run by Jayden Nicol and focuses on consistent recurring bookkeeping for small New Zealand businesses.
The model is deliberately straightforward: clear scope, repeatable monthly workflows, secure business systems, controlled automation and escalation instead of guesswork. You deal directly with the person responsible for your bookkeeping rather than being passed through a large team.
FAQ
The practical questions.
Do you file GST returns?
No. Monthend can prepare routine GST information where it is straightforward and supported by the records, but GST filing stays with you or your accountant/tax adviser.
Is the first month really free?
Yes. The first agreed full calendar service month runs from the 1st to the last day and is free. Historical cleanup and specialist work are not automatically included.
Does the trial automatically become paid service?
No. After the trial, Monthend confirms the proposed ongoing scope, fee and start date. Paid service starts only if you accept that conversion in writing.
What happens if my books are already behind?
That is assessed separately before it is treated as standard recurring work. Material historical cleanup may need its own scope and quote.
Can I keep my existing accountant?
Yes. Monthend is designed to sit alongside an accountant where appropriate: Monthend handles the agreed routine bookkeeping, while tax, annual accounts and advisory can remain with your existing accountant.
Do you provide tax or financial advice?
No. Monthend’s standard service is bookkeeping. It does not include tax advice, financial advice, financial planning, annual accounts or income-tax returns.
